Artwork Instructions

Files can be created in many different software packages and sent to us in a variety of formats. The following guidelines will help ensure your final product is as you expected.

  • The initial graphic should be created to 100% size at 100dpi (or quarter size at 400dpi).
  • The colour mode must be CMYK. RGB files will give unpredictable results.
  • To avoid any disappointment with the finished print, please ensure you screen check any photographs for quality at actual size before sending.
  • Please also ensure you include cropmarks and at least 3mm bleed on all artwork.
  • Supplying us with a PDF, jpeg or hard copy proof is always advisable. If we have received no proofs against which to check we will automatically assume that you accept complete responsibility for the artwork.
  • It’s always best to convert fonts to outlines/vectors/curves wherever possible, especially if using foreign languages. If in doubt please supply the fonts as well.
  • Please be aware that any Pantone colours will print to their closest CMYK equivalent. Please check your Pantone “solid to process” guide.
  • If you are designing for pop-ups, roller banners etc.
    • Please set up your document as a spread of the appropriate number of pages (e.g. 5 pop-up panels = 5 page spread) rather than one large page. Be aware of any elements of your design crossing the joins – because of the nature of the material and processes, it is impossible to guarantee they will line up 100%.
    • Please take note of the visible print dimensions included in the product description on our web pages and set up your file accordingly, adding 3mm bleed where necessary.

Adobe Acrobat PDF - RECOMMENDED

Please save as ‘high quality’, with at least 3mm bleed, crop marks and fonts included. This is this best format to use.

Freehand, Illustrator or CorelDraw

Please save as EPS files, with all the fonts converted to vectors/outlines/curves (i.e. so there is no need to supply the fonts). If in doubt please supply the fonts as well. Please include at least 3mm bleed, crop marks and any linked files.

Quark Xpress

Please ‘collect for output’ and ensure all necessary files and fonts are included. Please include at least 3mm bleed, crop marks and any linked files.

Adobe InDesign

Please ensure all linked files are local to the InDesign document and fonts are included or converted to outlines (i.e. so there is no need to supply the fonts). If in doubt please supply the fonts as well. Please include at least 3mm bleed, crop marks and any linked files.

Adobe Photoshop files

These can be supplied as flattened PSD, EPS or TIFF files, or maximum quality (not via the “Save for Web” function) JPEG. Please ensure the colour mode is CMYK. We will assume 3mm bleed is included unless notified otherwise.

Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint files

Please supply these files in PDF format. For Powerpoint files over 1420mm (Powerpoint’s maximum page size), please set up your custom page at half or quarter size and we’ll scale it up before it goes to print. Don’t forget that all imported images still need to look good at 100dpi resolution at their final printed size.

Re-formatting charges

Time spent by our design department in re-formatting supplied files because the above instructions have not been followed will be charged at an hourly rate of £50. Should this charge need to be applied we will make you aware of this by e-mail and will await your confirmation before proceeding.
